80's Movies Fun!!!

Anyone ever seen the movie "Heathers" starring Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty. It's the original "Mean Girls," except instead of mean - they're deadly. It's a black comedy, meaning its a bit sadistic yet humorous. Anyways, Jen at work was nice enough to introduce it to me and I'm forever in her debt because of it. So why am I bringing this up?

So there you have it folks. Its a screwed up world. But on a lighter note, I have a new game. Its called Name the movie (and if possible, the set-up) for an 80's movie quote. NO CHEATING!!! That means you're on the honor system not to Google it (Ro, this means you too.) And today's quote is an easy one to get us going:

"You shouldn't drink. It's bad for you... JESUS AND YOU SMOKE TOO!?!?"
"Marty, you're starting to sound like my mother."

And to round out my 80's movies post, my favorite 80's movies memory...
When I was younger, we had that collection of VHS tapes where we would record movies right off of HBO or whatever. It was a pretty nice size collection - but I'll tell you which ones I wore out the quickest... Tremors, Critters, and Gremlins. In Rob French's childhood, those are the classics, the Great Gatsby of my time. And now I own most of them on DVD, and DVD's never wear out.

I believe my favorite movie of the 80's would have to be Top Gun. I never get tired of watching airplanes being blown up by Tom Cruise and his F-14 with "highway to the danger zone" playing in the background. Anyway, Rob and I had a discussion that he failed to mention in his little blog, although he promised he would. We somehow got into the discussion about music and I was trying to convince him that Jimmy Buffett is quite possibly the best musician ever. Rob however disagrees. I was wondering if there were any other Jimmy Buffet fans on this blog that could support my claim. With such timeless classics as "Let's get drunk and screw", and "Cheeseburger in Paradise", I dont know how you couldnt love Jimmy Buffet.

I too guessed "Back to the Future" We watch it enough I should have aleast part of it memorized. My fav 80's movie would be Flashdance. Where the girl went as a dancer in a men's club to Pittsburgh ballet school. I thought it was a great movie and an inspiration to anyone with a dream. Mom

I HAVE watched Flashdance, and I agree, it was awesome. Good taste Mrs. French! It has always bothered me, though, that she made it into the school of ballet. Her audition consisted of a jazz based dance, that I don't think had much, if any ballet technique (it's been a while since I watched it) but she still made it into the school. No real ballet academy would have accpeted her. But I liked it anyway.
I have, however, not enjoyed that other various 80's movies that Rob has made me sit through. Willow was the first. And I definitely fell asleep. Then came Dark Crystal... and it was SO wierd in a terrifying kind of way. And Critters... actually that was funny. I loved the pillow fight scene. And the Neverending Story- we've watching it like a thousand times and it needs to die. So, seeing as I haven't had the best experience with 80's movies, I'm gonna really suck at this new game. Especially since I'm not allowed to Google It. :(

OH man, Rob, I remember that I used to be so jealous of your massive VHS collection of rad circa-80's films, then I realized that I was your friend and I was at your house, and your house always had ice cream, so I was alright with that after that.
And with all of the hubbub over Flashdance, I thought that I would edjumacate everyone to a tasty peice of movie trivia. The final dance sequence, the audition, parts featured the actress, whatsherface, but some of the more intricate dance moves were done by a dude. A dude with a serious 80's mustache. Like a Tom Ryder mustashe. I don't even know how to spell mustashe. How did I learn that you might ask? Thank you VH1 I love the 80's, no VH1, I love you.
Seriously, Rob, the big chest under the tv chock full of VHS tapes? We never had a dull Halloween night.

Yup, I know it's been said, but back to the future. And I will state, for the record, that some of my favorite 80's movies include things such as Willow, BttF, Short Circuit, Top Gun, and others which I'm too lazy to look up and don't remember if they were 80's, as the oldest I got in that decade was 7. But willow was cool, Warwick Davis is awesome in the shortman role, and he has rapping skills. Ever seen Leprachaun (sp?) in the Hood? >:)

No, I'd have to say the worst movie I've ever been subjuected to was Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. After it was over, I wanted to throttle almost everyone involved in its creation. The movie you mentioned sounds like it has much potential for MST3K goodness. But if you really want an easy movie to mock, watch House of the Dead. Yuppie to Rambo in 5 seconds.
